Pluta Integrative Oncology and Wellness Center
Integrative oncology is a patient-centered, evidence-based field of cancer care that uses mind and body practices, natural products, and lifestyle modifications alongside conventional cancer treatments. It aims to optimize health, quality of life, and clinical outcomes across the cancer continuum. It also helps people prevent cancer and become active participants before, during, and beyond cancer treatment.
Integrative oncology focuses on the whole patient–not just treating cancer, by helping patients manage symptoms, improve their quality of life, and feel more in control of their care. Through donor support, all offerings are free to patients of Pluta Cancer Center and Wilmot Cancer Institute.
In partnership with Wilmot Cancer Institute, the Pluta Integrative Oncology and Wellness Center helps patients improve their entire wellbeing — physical, mental, and emotional.
Patient Needs Program
Cancer puts unique and potentially devastating burdens on patients and their families. The emotional and financial costs of cancer can be overwhelming, with unexpected expenses, transportation challenges, and often the inability to continue to work. We help to ease financial stressors so patients can focus on what matters most: their health and family.
Comfort and Treatment
Comfort Bags for First-Time Patients
We give patients a comfort bag when they begin chemotherapy and radiation treatment, offering a measure of comfort and care. Each bag contains a variety of gifts, such as journals, cookbooks, coloring materials, blankets, warm socks, and hard candies. Every item has been thoughtfully identified as comforting and beneficial to patients during treatment.
Ponchos
Started by a Pluta patient, our Poncho Project gives a fleece poncho to each breast cancer patient at the beginning of radiation treatments. They are warmer and more comfortable than standard-issue hospital gowns.
Holidays
It is a Pluta tradition to help support families in need during the holidays. The physical and emotional effects associated with cancer treatment can be difficult in the best of circumstances. For many patients with a cancer diagnosis, the financial stressors are often magnified during the holiday season.
Thanksgiving
Our annual Thanksgiving Program supports select patients that are currently experiencing financial hardship due to their cancer diagnosis. Patients are provided with Wegmans gift cards they can use to purchase Thanksgiving meal staples that best support their dietary needs, cultural considerations, and dietary preferences.
Holiday Angel Program
The Holiday Angel Program provides holiday gifts for patients and their families. With the help of our generous donors, we collect gifts for the various ages and interests of patient families. Our Pluta Angels then embrace a family by helping to fulfill their “Wishlist”.
